Should I be worried if my 7-year-old has a hole in her tooth and complains of toothache sometimes? I was told that it's not a big deal since the teeth are going to fall out anyway. Is this true? The last time she saw a dentist, hesaid her teeth were fine. I don't even know when this happened. What should I do?

I would say maybe not worried but you should probably have it looked at. I did kind of forget that the teeth just fall out anyways, but if there is pain involved you can never be too safe just because who knows what it can turn into.

I would say it just really depends on how much pain she can experience without feeling unwell. Sometimes a child will do their best to ignore pain just so they can go about their day and have fun, etc. But if she starts getting that sickly/pale look to her, then there's always a risk of possible infection going on, pain, and a general feeling of malaise. But if she seems to be doing okay and it doesn't seem like a big deal to her (and she looks okay too) - then I'd just leave it. If it's going to fall out anyway eventually, why care for something that isn't even permanent. Now, if this was her SECOND, permanent tooth, I would say run not walk to the dentist. ;)

I don't know much about it, but yes I have heard that those tooth will be fall in that particular age. Bus still it would be better to consult doctor why it was happened. I mean when he will have new teeth you can avoid this thing happening again. So I will advice you to meet the doctor for the same to know more about this problem and why it happened so that you can be careful again in future.

My granddaughter had a hole in one of her back teeth when she was around that age but the dentist didn't drill it, he just put some kind of covering over it. It didn't get any worse and eventually fell out. Her second teeth are fine although I have to constantly nag her to clean them. I wouldn't worry too much but make sure she knows how important it is to look after her second teeth. Children really don't realise how important it is to look after their second teeth.

If that is milk tooth then it is normal to be not durable. It is easy to develop a cavity because of the soft material of milk teeth. But if there is pain, it is imperative to bring your child to the dentist. It's not good to let the child suffer toothache because she may develop a bad attitude towards oral health. As early as possible, teach your child to be familiar with the dentist.

Since you have consulted the dentist, maybe it is fine. Though the milk teeth will eventually go off, I have read that if we don't take good care of the milk teeth, it will actually affect how the teeth grow. I am not sure how true it is, but I understand moms' worries, especially when she has toothache. I would bring her to see another dentist and ask for a second opinion.

I think at this point, it won't hurt to consult a dentist first to be able to avoid mishaps and to be sure that your kid won't harm their teeth even more.

I work as a dentist. From my experience I can adamantly say that a little negligence on your part at present and make you bear big losses in the future. All the teeth are important whether they are deciduous or permanent. In case of any kind of ailments immediately consult a specialist.

Milk teeth will fall out but I don't think it's healthy that the kid suffers toothaches especially when their still so young to have their permanent teeth.I suggest you go to the dentist to try and remedy the situation of his tooth so that when it's not yet due to fall out, your child can still have his teeth without pain.

Milk teeth are extremely important. I know they will shed off with time but if they are carried forward in a diseased condition they will harm the underlying permanent tooth buds. This, in turn, will affect the future permanent teeth. Even a mild infection in milk teeth should be treated with utmost urgency.

Having a hole in ones teeth makes it sensitive and children could really feel pain, if left unchecked it could lead to an abscess and infection. It's better to have it checked by a dentist and if need be, have the tooth extracted. Doing this will completely stop the pain and suffering your kid has been enduring.

My granddaughter has just visited the dentist. She had no decay but she may have to have a brace in a year or so as her teeth are a little overcrowded but he said as her jaw is still growing she might just get away with it. I hope she won't have to have one because I know they can make the mouth sore at first and she will have to have visits to the orthodontist at a neighbouring town. At least at her age she won't have to pay as it's free for under 16s.

I consider myself very very lucky to not really have that many devastating dental issues with my kids when they were growing up, and I feel it is a lot of luck because I myself was a hassle and I have heard other stories where it seems like they are constantly going to the dentist, which is the last place that I want to be.

I wouldn't worry about that, they should be retained until they fall out naturally though.

Where children are concerned, my advice to you is this; if your gut or instinct tells you that something is not right, then know that something is not right. No matter what anyone says. Take your child to a health professional if you can. Parents have been given this ability to know when something is not right with their child and if all parents can pay attention to this gut feeling, so many children would be far better off today.

Just give the kid pain killers to help her with the pains if it's too much to endure. You need not worry too much about the tooth because it's still milk tooth and in no distant time, it would fell off on its own and grow back another good stronger tooth.

If the problem with your son is in his first tooth then it's not all that serious but you will have to be more careful with his eating and personal hygienic habits. You will have to sto him from eating sweets and make sure that he cleans his teeth before going to bed. It might not make a big difference on hs first teeth but once he gets his new teeth it will be a big problem if he doesn't take proper care.

If a kid is already suffering from toothache, then it would be perfect to consult a dentist. A toothache is not a joke and I was one of those kids who suffered from it before and we didn't have any other option but had it extracted.

Yes those early tooth are going to fall. But if dentist is saying that its fine and her tooth are good enough, then I don't think you need to worry. But better you ask the doctor why it has happened so that it can be avoided in future with new tooth. Also ask him cure for the pain so that she can feel relax.

Even those teeth that finally fall off need attention if they ache. May be there is infection and an infected tooth surely needs attention. Not all teeth need to be extracted if there is an ache but the doctor could examine and take care of the infection.
