As you know breakfast is very important for a kid and this is true for grown ups too. Breakfast is the food for our brain after a long night's fast. So it should be nutritious. Kids who eat healthy breakfast tend to have high IQ levels as it really helps in brain development. Unlike adults kids go through a long period of sleep like 8-12 hours so it is very important to have a healthy breakfast. So load it with important vitamins, minerals and fiber. A perfect breakfast boosts kid's memory and concentration and he becomes more creative and innovative.
I really do believe that there is some sort of a relationship there. I am not really sure how, but I know that a good start to the day just makes them more willing to learn, and that I am sure translates into the IQ level.
It is a proven fact that breakfast does affect kids intelligence to a great extent. It is also said that irregular breakfast habits can psychologically affect a kid and can lead to unhealthy traits like smoking, addiction to alcohol etc in their life at a later stage. So instead of going for branded memory boosters we should focus more on giving nutritious breakfast to our kids. It should be rich in all essential vitamins and minerals. Fiber rich fruits and vegetables are better options. Also we should add pulses and whole grains to give him complex carbohydrates and protein. Whole fruits are always better than fruit juices as it contain a lot of dietary fiber. http://www.nydailynews.com/life-sty...kfast-score-higher-iq-tests-article-1.1257823
Breakfast is really important, not just because of the energy after a nights sleep, but because people of any age don't learn or work well when they are hungry. For children, who are learning everything, they need to have the energy to go and and explore, experiment, and discover the world. If they are hungry, their desire to conserve energy will lead to them not doing that to save what energy they have for growing, so since they aren't learning as much their IQ will be lower than the children who were well fed. It is also about making sure they have the right nutrition and energy to do all that growing!
I don't think that there's any doubt that everybody and especially children perform better when they have started the day off with a breakfast. Your body (and mind) need that food intake to give it the boost it needs to take on the day, and some even say that an unhealthy breakfast is better than no breakfast at all. Sadly though, here in the UK and no doubt in other countries some children are going to school without breakfast as parents may not be able to afford to provide one. More and more schools are now opening earlier to provide a breakfast club, and not only does that then make sure that the child gets the right amount of food they need, but it also then sets them up for the rest of the day and they are then able to concentrate better on what they are there to do...learn.
I think it is not only a matter of energy but also it is the food for our brain. Brain and heart are two organs that work without any rest even when we sleep. So after a long night's sleep a good breakfast is required for its proper functioning. As breakfast is directly connected to our brain functioning a proper nutritious breakfast can actually influence the way we think and act. As rightly pointed out by @pwarbi there are many children who are not blessed to have a proper breakfast every day due to poverty. But it is a real relief that public schools usually have a system of free breakfast and lunch at schools. Kids in private schools are mostly from rich families who can afford this cost.
While like you say, it is a relief that these schools have the system put in place to look after the children that aren't well off and can't afford breakfast, it's a shame that the problem isn't tackled in the home instead. Food is obviously one of the most important things in life, and if a family is struggling to earn enough to feed themselves then should they really be having more and more children in the first place?
I was living with my grandma until first grade of school. Breakfast is big deal to her so I was raised in fried eggs, buttered toast and a glass of milk. When I entered 2nd grade and was back home to live with my family, I noticed my siblings who are not particular with breakfast. More often than not, they skip breakfast. Not to brag but I have the highest IQ in the brood not to mention that I am the tallest too. Owe it to the breakfast when I was young.
Okay so lets see now. I never had a regular breakfast since my childhood till date. Of recent I have been trying to remember to take breakfast atleast twice to thrice a week. That said, I was always a brilliant student! Now whether that was due to hard work, interest, genes or lack of breakfast only God knows. Now that researches have given the link, breakfast has been magnified. Otherwise I think there are other factors that also contribute towards better IQ. A balanced diet I believe still suffices although I totally agree that breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day.
