Mothers love to have little helpers in the kitchen because it is one way of bonding with the children. Most children are not interested in the kitchen even if they are voracious eaters. They prefer to play. But when the child has the initiative to be of help to the mother in the kitchen, that is a good sign that the child may have an aptitude in culinary arts. That is much better than playing computer games.

A little child will display interest in learning how to cook at a young age, so if the child is interested in watching mom how to cook then mom is lucky that her child is interested in cooking, so the child will always help in the kitchen without being asked to.

The only rule in the kitchen regarding children is that they cannot handle the knife until they reach 13. There are many cases where the child got cut by the knife so we are very strict with that. I know some children who are not really after the food but just for the bonding with the mother. They talk while the mother is cooking. That usually happens in our kitchen when I was young.
