Most nursery rhymes are tragedies and based on history "Jack fell down and broke his crown"............. and one wonders why no one has objected to these rhymes specially since they are meant for kids.

I think nursery rhymes were written for the rhymes and meter. With the meaning I guess it should be taken lightly and not focus on the tragedy. Even the London Bridge which is falling down is also negative but it became popular. So I guess nursery rhymes are not really for the meaning of the story. It is just a way of lulling the children to sleep.

Rhymes are for fun. For kids to recite or sing it as it goes with rhyming words.

They are taught by the kinder or grade one teacher without telling the moral lesson. They are taught for singing, for choral recitation.
