The specialist can give advice on when is the proper period to try getting pregnant, that is when the wife is in her fertility period. For the husband, he should continue with his own work up with proper diet and exercise plus the desire to abstain from sex like trying to preserve the strength of the sperm. And if nothing happens for 3 months then I guess you need another consultation with the specialist.

This is a good idea for couples that are struggling to conceive. There are ovulation calculators available online as well which can also help to try and pinpoint ovulation, based on the woman's period cycle length, and the date of her last period.

Of course, a specialist will be able to give more tailored advice, but this could be a good place to start if you're unable to get an appointment quickly.

Do women in general know exactly when they ovulate or do they have to confirm with a specialist?

There are telltale signs like a rise in body temperature. But for purposes of timing the fertility, it is practical to consult a specialist for the exact ovulation period. When it is determined then the couple can be given the exact date or dates when to have sex for the chance to be pregnant. There are cases that it takes a long time, some years, to get pregnant in the natural way because of the timing. By the way, my niece who is an ob-gyne said that there are women who ovulates for just 1 day. Gee, that is like shooting in the dark.

'Shooting in the dark' lol. But I get what you are saying. Ovutating for just a single day sounds really stressful. I feel like this would put a toll on most relationship and their emotional well-being.

The advice of one specialist is to resort to AI - artificial insemination so that it would not put much pressure on the husband. Think if you need to have sex just to get pregnant, it is like being an obligation and not a pleasurable exercise anymore. I agree that AI is one good way of ensuring pregnancy when there is no other issues except the timing during the fertility period. I know of some couples who were successful on that.

I agree. I'm led to understand that there is an ovarian stimulant involved, which is then combined with sperm, not just any sperm but the most potent (for luck of a better word). This highly increases the chances of success.
