Choosing a doctor for your child can be nerve-wracking. Initially the doctor tends to get assigned, but sometimes a child doesn't get on with the doctor or you move, or they move and parents find themselves hunting a new doctor. When ours moved I seriously considered moving to be back in his work area, but he took the time to personally introduce his patients to his replacement which laid a lot of my worries to rest. So what would you say were the most important things to look for in a doctor for your child?
That was nice of your doc. I hope it works out for you. When you find a good one (especially these days), you want to keep him or her. The main thing I look for in any doctor is one who will listen. I get so tired of being treated like a number, and I certainly won't put up with that when it comes to my kids.
My brother's eldest daughter is a pediatrician (paediatrician) who specializes in toddlers. She always tells us that a pedia doctor should have compassion and love for children otherwise he will not be effective in his job. Putting myself on the other shoe, I guess the first thing to look for in a pediatrician is the genuine concern for the child patient. As what my niece said, the doctor should treat the child patient like his own child.
